Happy 2015!!  Hope this finds everyone well with the new year treating them good!!  As we start the new year some of us like to reorganize our homes and our lives.  We received an email from the Ohio Department of Insurance with some New Year Resolutions:  Ensure You Have Adequate Insurance Protection that we would like to share.

Lt. Gov. and Dept. of Insurance Director Mary Taylor was quoted as saying "now is the perfect time to conduct an insurance audit and an insurance agent can be a great resource in getting the answers you need."  She also said "insurance touches all aspects of our lives, it provides a financial safety net and it also is a big part of the family budget, so it should be carefully analyzed."

The important considerations that Mary Taylor points out are:  The need for an agent, get quotes and look for more than price, discounts are typically available, private rating firms provide additional information, keep a home inventory and coverage up to date, review your auto insurance coverages, review new insurance cards and paperwork, check provider lists (health insurance) and life insurance should also be taken into consideration.

Dept. of Insurance Director Mary Taylor also offered some "other" tips for your home and auto insurance:  raise your deductible to help lower the premium, don't over insure or under insure to avoid a co insurance penalty, consider a guaranteed replacement cost policy, most policies have separate coverage sub limits for big ticket items or multiple items of a particular category for example, electronics, art, jewelry or sporting equipment so you may want to discuss insuring these items separately.  For your auto insurance her tips are:  be sure to have adequate liability coverage, adjusting your other than collision and collision coverages, be sure to have uninsured or underinsured coverage.
